Riccardo Frizza brings “beautiful sound” to Teatro La Fenice

Riccardo Frizza reinvigorates Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in a new production at Teatro La Fenice. The Italian conductor “delivered a wonderful reading of the score” praised Opera Wire, which further commended the “beautiful sound from the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, producing colorful shadings and controlled dynamic variations that brought out the dramatic contrasted and highlighted the salient points in the onstage action.”

An expert in bel canto and Donizetti, Maestro Frizza complemented Francesco Micheli’s production with a new approach, emphasizing the individual instrumental sections, which “proved to be an interesting and successful choice as it highlighted a subtlety in Donizetti’s score” (Opera Wire).

Teatro La Fenice’s Lucia stars Nadine Sierra and Zuzana Marková as the title character, Markus Werba and Giuseppe Altomare singing the role of Lord Enrico Ashton, and Francesco Demuro and Shalva Mukeria alternating Edgardo di Ravenswood.

Riccardo Frizza takes the podium for the final performance of Lucia di Lammermoor on May 2.
