Riccardo Frizza will open the season in Paris with “I Puritani”

-The Italian conductor returns to the Paris Opéra National before opening the season in Bilbao with Lucia di Lammemoor.

July 2019

After his return to the Castell de Peralada Festival in early August, at the helm of a new production of La Traviata (Verdi), the Italian conductor Riccardo Frizza is preparing to open the season at the Opéra National de Paris, when he will conduct the nine performances of I Puritani (Bellini) programmed between 7th September and 5th October, at the immense Opéra Bastille.   The production will be directed by Laurent Pelly with Elsa Dreisig and Javier Camarena taking the lead roles. This is the beginning of a new season in which the Opéra National company will continue to celebrate its 350th anniverary.

Riccardo Frizza made his debut at the ONP with Rossini´s La Cenerentola in 2012, later going on to conduct operas such as L’Italiana in Algeri (Rossini), Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti) and Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini) at the same company. The Italian maestro will be returning once again to the Parisian opera house next December to conduct Il Pirata (Bellini), working with the singers Sondra Radvanovsky, Michael Spyres and Ludovic Tézier.

After La Traviata, Riccardo Frizza will conduct Lucia di Lammermoor in October for the opening of the ABAO Bilbao Opera season, as well as a gala event of the opera Lucrezia Borgia at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo (Italy), of which he is the musical director, and also a concert with scenes from Donizetti´s Tudor queens in Chicago, before his return to Paris with Il Pirata.
