Otello at Macerata shines with Riccardo Frizza at the podium

In his return to the Macerata Opera Festival in Sferisterio, Riccardo Frizza leads a new production of Verdi’s Otello starring Stuart Neill in the title role, Jessica Nuccio as Desdemona, Robert Frontali as Iago, and directed by Paco Azorin.

Bachtrack praises the Italian maestro’s skillful work at the podium, declaring that “arguably the best performance came from Frizza’s orchestra. The muscular outbursts blistered, and the romantic lyricism soared. This was a fluid reading of some restless through-composed music.”

Otello continues at the Arena Sferisterio with performances on July 30, and August 5 and 13.
