Riccardo Frizza was appointed as Musical Director of festival Donizetti Opera in Bergamo

The Donizetti Opera festival is enriched with a new figure: The Councilor for Culture of the City of Bergamo, Nadia Ghisalberti, the General Manager of the Fondazione Teatro Donizetti Massimo Boffelli with the Artistic Director of the Fondazione Donizetti as well as the Editor in Chief Paolo Fabbri have announced the nomination of the conductor Riccardo Frizza as Music Director. The newly appointed Music Director will be immediately involved in the preparation of the 2018 Festival.

Award-winning Italian maestro Riccardo Frizza is a galvanic presence on the podium, inspiring performances as exhilarating as they are expressive. Championed by Alberto Zedda, Bruno Cagli, and Gian Carlo Menotti, he is a leading exponent of bel canto repertoire, collaborating with a who’s who of today’s most iconic singers at opera houses from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala to the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In the concert hall, he graces the podiums of such world-class ensembles as the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Rome’s Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, London’s Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony, while his extensive discography includes Decca’s Una furtiva lagrima, winner of the 2004 Cannes Classical Award.

Riccardo Frizza named director of Donizetti Opera Festival


As announced this morning, Riccardo Frizza has been named the new music director of the Donizetti Opera Festival. The Italian conductor, an authority in the bel canto repertoire, will head the Bergamo-based festival beginning with the 2018 season, when he will also lead several productions from the podium.
